Shop Talk: Cylinder Liner Protrusion Installation Tips
Liner protrusion is the measurement the cylinder liner extends above the surface of the engine block. It is supposed to stick above the surface of the block and act essentially as a cushion on the cylinder head gasket. Once torqued into place the cylinder head crushes the gasket evenly and to the correct OEM specifications. In essence the cylinder liner is a guide to make sure the cylinder head and block are in proper alignment. Measurements are taken using a bridge micrometer and a dial indicator. ... read more »

The Environmental Protection Agency was created in the footsteps of the Clean Air Act of 1970. For 46 years the EPA has been constantly evolving and enacting laws to address the environmental needs of this country. Common Causes of Engine Misfires
Automotive misfires are a whole different animal than with diesel engines. Diesel engines ignite the fuel through compression where as automotive gas engines use a spark from an ignition system. With automotive misfires an ignition system is the first place to start looking for the misfire. The next appropriate steps to diagnose the problem include inspection of the ignition cables, spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor components and the ignition coil. The spark generated for ignition oftentimes will not be properly transferred as those components mentioned above wear significantly over time. The inability to ignite the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chambers will result in the engine not being able to turn over. ... read more »
